Essential oils are extracted directly from plants. They're more volatile, degrade faster on skin, and many are photosensitizing (bergamot, lime, citrus varieties). Fragrance oils are cosmetic formulations designed specifically for alcohol-based perfumes, they perform more consistently, last longer on skin, and blend more predictably.

Yes. The four recipes are starting points. You can adjust ratios, combine notes from different recipes, or freestyle entirely. The six oils were chosen to work in any combination.

Completely normal. Fresh blends often smell raw or sharp before they rest. Cap your bottle and leave it for 24–48 hours, this is called macerating. The notes will meld and the fragrance will balance. Most blends improve significantly after resting.

4–6 hours on most skin. Denser blends (Woods-heavy, Sugar-heavy) tend to last longer. Apply to pulse points for best projection.

12–18 months when stored away from direct sunlight and heat. The frosted glass bottles provide UV protection, which significantly extends shelf life versus clear plastic.

Yes. All six fragrance oils are cosmetic-grade and skin-safe at the concentrations used in the recipes. Finished perfumes are sprayed on skin, not worn neat. If you have known fragrance sensitivities, patch-test on a small area first.

A decant is a smaller amount of a fragrance, hand-poured by us from a full bottle we own into a glass atomiser. It's the same juice from the same bottle — just a size that lets you actually live with a scent before committing to a full bottle. Every decant page lists the full note pyramid, our own description, and the community rating from Fragrantica.

No. Every decant is hand-poured to order and can't be re-sold once it leaves the studio, so all decant sales are final — no returns, refunds, or exchanges. We flag this at checkout too, so it's never a surprise.

If a decant arrives damaged, leaking, or isn't what you ordered, that's on us — email support@scentplusart.com within 14 days and we'll replace or refund it. Final sale never means we ignore our own mistake.

Yes. The kit arrives in a rigid gift box with foam insert, already gift-ready. Hand it over as-is. It suits fragrance lovers, creative hobbyists, and anyone who enjoys hands-on experiences. Digital gift cards are also available if you'd prefer the recipient to choose.

It ships in its own gift box with foam insert. There's no separate "gift wrap" option because the packaging is already the gift presentation. It arrives ready to give.

The perfume making kit always ships free within the United States. Everything else — decants, decant sets, and fragrance oils — ships free on orders over $70, with a $5 flat rate below that. All orders include tracking.

Orders are fulfilled within 1–2 business days from Warren, Michigan. Standard delivery is typically 3–5 business days after fulfillment.
